What we have here is the evolution of the poor man's gaming systems:
Intellivision, Commodore 64, Texas Instruments, Sega, Sega Genesis.
If Carter had won a second term, or Mondale had kicked ass in '84, these would be the systems kids remembered...
So fuck Atari. Screw you Nintendo. Shove it, Apple
(Not really. Joe and I both played the shit out of those systems too - as you can see...)
But, by far, the best find was...
Up top is the Atari Lynx. The closest I ever got to that thing was my 13 yr old greasy face pushed against the security glass in the expensive tech section at Toys'R'us. Below that are not one, but TWO voice emulators for the Comm 64 and Texas Instruments.
This is the type of stuff that will be invaluable in terms of production design for Things We've Made. By cracking open plastic cases here, covering labels there, we plan on using this obsolete tech to not only inform the film's world, but also pay homage to these beautiful machines.
If just one person sees the film and says "Whoa, that's the cartridge adapter for the Sega Genesis! Right on!!!", then we have done our job.
Thank you, Joe.
